Why this test matters
Products often come into contact with water or chemical fluids during use or cleaning, and continuous exposure can lead to swelling, discoloration, rust, or coating failure. The immersion test evaluates exactly how resistant your metal, plastic, or coated part is to that kind of exposure, using an accelerated setup that reveals problems in weeks instead of years. It's especially valuable wherever water or chemical resistance is critical to product reliability, from coated metal parts to plastic components that see regular contact with liquids.
How the test works
Coated metal or plastic samples are fully submerged in a bath of demineralised water or a chemical substance at a chosen temperature, selected to match your real application. After immersion, the coating is visually assessed for adhesion loss, rust, blistering, and colour change, the four signs that reveal whether a coating is genuinely protecting the part beneath it or starting to fail. At the end of the test, you receive a clear report with accompanying photographs documenting exactly what happened.
What you learn from this test
The immersion test gives you measurable evidence of how well a material or coating resists liquid exposure: whether it lost adhesion, started to rust, developed blisters, or changed colour, and how quickly. These findings help you identify compatibility issues before they reach the field, guide material or coating selection, and back up a water or chemical resistance claim with real, documented evidence rather than an assumption.
