Why this test matters
As products become smaller and more complex, tiny dimensional deviations can cause major performance issues. Micro metrology helps companies control critical dimensions that directly affect functionality, assembly, and reliability. This testing is essential for preventing fit problems, functional failure, and inconsistent quality in high-precision components. Industries such as medical devices, microelectronics, precision mechanics, optics, additive manufacturing, and advanced materials rely on micro metrology to meet strict tolerances and build customer trust.
How the test works
Micro metrology uses high-precision, non-contact 3D measurement techniques to capture dimensions, shapes, and surface features at the micrometer and sub-micrometer scale, without touching or altering the part itself. Depending on the application, we use a focus variation microscope, a confocal microscope, an interferometric profilometer, or a scanning electron microscope, each suited to different surface types, feature sizes, or reflectivity. Samples are carefully positioned and measured under controlled conditions to limit environmental influence. Key parameters include measurement resolution, accuracy, repeatability, and environmental stability such as temperature control.
What you learn from this test
The test provides accurate dimensional data, geometric tolerances, and surface characteristics at the micro scale. Results highlight deviations from nominal design values and reveal variability between parts or production batches. Companies use these insights to validate designs, improve manufacturing processes, qualify suppliers, and support quality control. The data enables confident decisions on product acceptance, process optimization, and long-term reliability.
